Plastic Surgeon

I met with the plastic surgeon today.  Preop visit.  We went over what to expect etc.  I will be in the hospital two days post surgery which means I won't get out till Thursday.   I will come home with at least three tubes coming out of my chest hooked up to drain bulbs or pain pump.  I will be on antibiotics and unable to shower for two weeks.  With that statement alone I am ready to call the whole thing off!  I have hospital preop on Wednesday and then I get to lay low and stay germ free until surgery day.  8 days and counting.

whoa! Hold up Texas Doctor! No shower for 2 WEEKS? That seems excessive. You can shower with drains in (just clip then to a lanyard.) Usually, it's just a few days of no shower - until they take off the first layer of bandages...you might want to question him on that one! Grrr - doctors! :)

also, go to a local beauty supply store and get a vinyl hair washing thing (I'm so helpful, I know!) It's a funnel like thing so someone else can wash your hair while you are sitting upright by the sink and the water runs into the sink. Just a few bucks and so worth it!

He said I could bathe from the waist down but sponge bath only until the drains come out 2 weeks. Saran wrap I think will be creatively used :) I can not not shower for 2 weeks. I also have a soaker tub which will also be creatively utilized :)

Praying for you as you get closer to the date. Preop tomorrow then? praying that goes well and you remain steadfast in your decision.

Not to be a radical, but the drains are under your arms...you can stand in the shower and keep them pretty dry...it will be hard to lift your arms to wash your hair for a while so you will want to figure out some help for that.

I would advice against the tub...sitting water has the potential to harbor germs and that's what the concern would be (germs into the open wound.)

Here if you need anything!
